The vocational outcomes in the sport industry are primarily those of a sports administrator. Specialty areas include event and facility management, marketing, sales, retail, and general administration.

Certificate III in Sport and Recreation [SRO30106]
All students who complete the Certificate III in Sport and Recreation will have a basic understanding of risk management and client services. The student also has a number of specialist options including retail, sales and marketing, and events and facilities.
For those specialising in Retail, the student will be able to:
- monitor receipt and dispatch of goods, maintain stock records, coordinate stock take, identify stock losses, process orders and follow up on orders;
- arrange, present, price and label merchandise according to organisational requirements, including promotions and special events;
- implement sales policies and procedures in regard to sales transactions and monitor and provide feedback on the achievement of sales targets; and,
- apply product knowledge to provide advice to clients and other sales staff with regard to brand options, design features, warranties, performance and maintenance of sporting goods and equipment, along with measuring and fitting sporting apparel.
For those specialising in Sales and Marketing, the student will be able to:
- collect and present data on the internal and external business environment;
- identify and present potential market opportunities to enable the evaluation and selection of viable opportunities;
- prepare and develop an elementary marketing audit report for use in the preparation of a marketing plan;
- develop product knowledge as preparation for the sales process;
- identify potential sales prospects through the application of prospecting methods;
- present a sales solution in response to the specific buying needs of the client;
- secure prospect commitment to proceed with a sale;
- attend to post sale activities that build and strengthen the partnership between salesperson and client in order to enhance the prospect of future sales; and,
- self-manage sales performance through establishing an individualised sales plan and through the management of stress, time and sales-oriented paperwork.
For those specialising in Events and Facilities, the student will be able to:
- coordinate guest/delegate registrations at venue;
- implement facility maintenance programs;
- educate the public on the safe use of a sport and recreational resource;
- improve client awareness and implementation of environmental management practice; and,
- develop and update events industry knowledge.
The requirements for a Certificate III in Sport and Recreation comprise achievement of twenty-four (24) to thirty-one (31) units of competency including specific Core units PLUS a specialisation in the area of retail, sales/marketing, or events/facilities. The student must also complete five (5) elective units of competency from any Training Package within the Sport and Recreation Industry (Community Recreation, Fitness, Outdoor Recreation, Sport) or from any other endorsed Training Package from any other industry. The elective areas could include competencies from the areas of aquatics, business, coaching and instruction, community services, fitness, health, hospitality, older persons, and tourism.

Certificate IV in Sport and Recreation [SRO40106]
All students who complete the Certificate IV in Sport and Recreation will have a basic understanding of risk management and client services. The student also has a number of specialist options including general administration, sales and marketing, and events and facilities.
For those specialising in General Administration, the student will be able to:
- use database software to complete business tasks and produce useable complex documents;
- use spreadsheet software to complete business tasks and produce useable complex documents;
- organise meetings, including agendas, papers, participants and minutes;
- organise domestic and overseas business trips, associated itineraries and make travel arrangements;
- maintain the effectiveness of existing business technology and planning for future technology requirements; and,
- report of financial activity for business both in response to client requests and to meet statutory reporting requirements.
For those specialising in Events and Facilities, the student will be able to:
- organise meetings/events and managing the actual preparation, set up and operation of a meeting or event;
- determine the services required by clients to plan, implement and evaluate services;
- identify resource requirements and usage trends, organise of maintenance programs;
- recommend recommendations in relation to the use and maintenance of resources; and,
- identify sources of waste and pollution, assessing their impact and developing appropriate strategies to manage and minimise their environmental impact.
For those specialising in Retail, the student will be able to:
- analyse the market, planning the product range, establishing supplier relationships, negotiate supply of goods, introducing the product range, maximising profit and rationalise stock;
- manage merchandising, planning and managing advertising and promotions;
- manage pricing policies;
- manage housekeeping;
- research markets, develop new markets and market products and services within the culture of the overall organisation policy;
- manage the receipt, dispatch and storage of merchandise; and,
- manage stock control.
For those specialising in Sales and Marketing, the student will be able to:
- segment the market, select targeting strategies and tactics, profile a target or target segments and the develop positioning strategies and implementation activities;
- analyse consumer behaviour to enable marketing to be targeted to specific markets and specific needs;
- analyse market data to assist in targeting marketing activities and drawing up a marketing plan;
- gather market intelligence to forecast market and business needs;
- implement marketing strategies and monitor improvement of market performance;
- establish, maintain and improve client relationships to support attainment of key business outcomes;
- prepare, deliver and review a presentation to a target audience; and,
- plan, implement, direct and evaluate the activities of the sales team.
The requirements for a Certificate IV in Sport and Recreation comprise achievement of eighteen (18) to twenty-two (22) units of competency including specific Core units PLUS a specialisation in the area of general administration, retail, sales/marketing, or events/facilities. The student must also complete five (5) elective units of competency from any Certificate III/IV Training Package within the Sport and Recreation Industry (Community Recreation, Fitness, Outdoor Recreation, Sport) or from any other endorsed Certificate IV Training Package from any other industry. Any units selected must be relevant to the occupational outcome sought and should be appropriate to the Australian Qualifications Framework level. - Coaching general principles
- Events and facilities
- Leisure & health programming
- Older persons
- Human resources
